UPDATE: Police say alcohol was a factor in a serious crash that happened at about 6:38 p.m. Wednesday south of Warsaw.

According to a police report completed by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Noma J. McPeak, 44, of Claypool, admitted to KCSD Sgt. Rick Shepherd that she had been drinking prior to the accident. According to a witness and the driver of the second vehicle, McPeak’s car crossed the center line and struck an SUV head on.

McPeak sustained head and internal injuries and was airlifted from the scene by Lutheran Air after being extricated from the vehicle by firefighters of the Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory. An initial portable breath test registered her blood alcohol content at .21 percent.

The driver of the SUV, Debbie Whybrew, 40, of Silver Lake, suffered an arm injury in the accident. Damages to the vehicles were estimated up to $50,000.
