
NORTH WEBSTER – In a battle of the lakes, Webster Lake emerged as the grandest of them all at the Mermaid Festival Co-ed Beach Volleyball Tournament. The week-long tournament concluded Saturday after pool play took place during the week.
Pool A had Lake Wawasee stand unbeaten at 6-0 while Pool B had Webster also run 6-0.
The brackets were then built for the single-elimination tournament, which had Sechrist Lake rally from an 21-18 loss to Big Tippy to claim 21-11, 21-9 wins to move on. The smallest body of water, Grindle Lake, still managed to advance with a 2-1 win in its opener, but were dwarfed by Wawasee 21-13, 21-13 in the next round. Webster knocked out Sechrist 21-9, 21-5, setting up the finale.
Webster came out strong in game one, winning 21-15, and endured a battle from the defending champs before claiming a 21-19 clincher.
Webster were made up of Jason Metzger, Joe Leach, Kate Leach and Jessie Myers. Wawasee were comprised of Jon Hill, Ed Harness and Candice Brown.
