A tragic accident in Silver Lake has claimed the life of a 4-year-old boy in Silver Lake today.
Officers and emergency personnel responded today at 1:42 p.m. to a 911 report of a truck/pedestrian crash located in front of the Sand’s Mini-Mart gas station on State Road 15, Silver Lake. Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson was summoned to the scene and pronounced Logan R. Heeter, 4, of Claypool, deceased at the scene from blunt force trauma.
Kosciusko County FACT/team members stated that a preliminary investigation of the crash determined that Logan had attempted to cross the street from the west side of State Road 15. Travis A. Woodcock, 25, of Louisville, Ky., had been driving a 2001 Freightliner flatbed truck southbound when he suddenly saw Logan enter into his path. Woodcock attempted to brake and swerve but could not avoid striking Logan.
The Kosciusko County FACT Team was assisted at the scene by the Silver Lake Police Department, Silver Lake Fire Department, Life-Med E.M.S., and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
The crash is still currently under investigation. An update to the accident was pending as police notified family of the child.
(Editor’s Note: It was originally released by KCSD that Logan R. Heeter was a resident of Warsaw. A correction from the county coroner has been issued stating that Heeter was instead from Claypool.)
