A fire started in the basement of this home, but was quickly brought under control by members of three area fire departments.
A fire started in the basement of this home, but was quickly brought under control by members of three area fire departments.

North Webster and Syracuse/Turkey Creek fire department responded yesterday to a fire located at 5251 E. 800 N., Syracuse.

According to North Webster Fire Chief Jeremy Likens, the fire began in the basement of the home at approximately 11:57 a.m. When fire fighters arrived on scene, heavy smoke had filled the building. Likens stated that damages to the structure were severe in the basement with smoke damage throughout the rest of the house. The fire was extinguished at 2:25 p.m.

According to Likens, all occupants of the home, which included two teenaged children who were home at the time of the fire, were able to exit safely. Likens noted the family is residing with other family members currently.

A cause of the fire and total estimated cost of damages is currently unknown and investigations are ongoing. Likens stated that approximately 50 percent of the home was damaged as a result of the fire.

Leesburg Fire Department was also called to the scene to assist with manpower. North Webster EMS also responded to the scene.
