An event long anticipated and expected to garner much attention throughout the summer is coming to Warsaw this week. On Thursday, the Walk n Wander display was debutted to a VIP crowd, and it’s being introduced to the public during tonight’s First Friday event.

Also as part of this evening’s celebration, at 5:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial on the courthouse square, and amid a sea of hundreds of American flags, Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer will introduce the “Unconditional Surrender” sculpture as part of the Seward Johnson art display. That particular sculpture features a sailor kissing a nurse.

Following the unveiling at 5:45 p.m., The Spirt of ’45 D Day memorial service and WWII veterans roll call will take place at the memorial. The Lakes Area Community Band will salute the veterans with a musical tribute of patriotic songs from 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Also happening during First Friday event will be musical entertainment including a hip trip through the 1960s with music by Jhonny and Sally at the corner of Buffalo and Market streets and the Columbia Street Jazz Quartet on the Center Street stage.

Other happenings as part of First Friday will be kids activities by Northern Indiana Lakes and Streams, National Doughnut Day by Big Brothers/Big Sisters and performances by Astound Dancers beginning at 7 p.m. on Buffalo Street. The usual display of arts, crafts and plenty of food offerings will round out the attractions.

First Friday begins at 5:30 p.m.
