Warsaw and Nappanee Police officers made two unrelated arrests recently, both stemming from domestic disputes that escalated into severe criminal offenses.

In the first case, Terry Lee Morrisett, 33, of 425 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw, was arrested yesterday on two Class D felony charges of criminal confinement and strangulation and a Class A misdemeanor battery pertaining to an incident that happened earlier in the day at a local motel.

According to an Affidavit of Probable Cause filed by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s office, Morrisett was in a room at The Economy Inn in Warsaw with his ex-girlfriend and another man. When the other man left, Morrisett became angry with the woman and allegedly began kicking her and hitting her with his fists. He also pulled out some of her hair and choked her with both hands until she nearly lost consciousness.

The woman said Morrisett beat her for 2 hours and would not let her leave the room during that time.

Warsaw Police Officer Phillip Reed located the victim at a loading dock at nearby DePuy and found her face badly swollen, which affected her speech. The woman also had bruises on her arms, legs and neck, and the officer saw hair missing from her head. Upon investigating the incident at Room 138 of The Economy Inn, the officer observed a broken window and hair strewn about the room.

Morrisett allegedly told the officer things got “out of control and it never should have happened.”

Morrisett was arrested and held on a $10,000 surety bond.

In a second case, Matthew Glassman, 27, of 56 M-Dee Acres, Nappanee, was said to be in what began as a verbal argument with his wife but ended in a case of criminal confinement.

Nappanee Police Officer Matthew Tice investigated the incident which, according to the victim, happened on the night of April 21. During the argument, the woman said her husband grabbed her with both hands and threw her against a wall causing her to hit her head.

Glassman took his wife’s cell phone from her and refused to allow her to leave the residence by blocking the exit. The couple’s children, ages 5 and 11 months, were present during the altercation.

The woman was able to leave the home the following morning when Glassman left for work. Glassman told the officer he simply turned his wife around, which caused her to trip and hit her head on the wall. He did admit, however, that he took his wife’s cell phone and asked her not to leave the house.

Glassman was arrested Friday and held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $10,000 surety bond. He has been charged with Class D felony counts of criminal confinement and domestic battery with a child under the age of 16 present, and Class A misdemeanor domestic battery.
