Altrusa International of Warsaw held its annual banquet at The Boathouse in Winona Lake on May 15 as the club finalized its 40th year of service to the Kosciusko County area. President Sue Creighton made three key award presentations.
The “Rookie of the Year” Award was presented to Christie Borzeniatow for her extra effort during her first 2 years as a club member. She is serving as treasurer and has coordinated Key Club events including the food for the club’s annual Bingo for Beaman Home. She will be chairing the membership committee for the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
Jan Sloan was presented with the “President’s Award.” This award is presented to an Altrusan who has been a club member for 10 years or longer and has displayed exemplary service to the club and the community. Sloan has served multiple years as an officer and has served on each club committee. This past year, as chairman of the service committee, she has coordinated the club’s monthly meal for the children at Baker Youth Club as well as the annual banquet for Grace College Mentors for Kids. She also volunteers for several local organizations and has attended district six conferences.
The “Altrusan of the Year” Award went to Martie Lennane. She was recognized for her eager spirit and service in her first year as a member of the club. She has chaired the membership committee, sponsored a new member, been a faithful volunteer for the club’s monthly meal at Baker Youth Club and other service projects and volunteered to lead a major fundraiser. She also served as the club’s delegate at the recent district six conference in Springfield, Ill.
“Our club is filled with members who willingly and regularly serve our community,” explained Creighton. “These three members have exceeded our club’s expectations on many levels and it was indeed an honor to present these awards,” she added.
Individuals who would like to serve the Kosciusko County area are encouraged to contact Creighton at 574-269-1170 or [email protected].
