WARSAW – A very strong Culver Academies team rolled past Warsaw in girls tennis action Thursday evening.
The Eagles posted straight set wins at all five positions to blank the host Tigers 5-0 in non-conference play.
Culver Academies, which will host the regional that the Warsaw Sectional winner feeds into again later this month, won sectional and regional championships in 2013. CGA then lost 5-0 to Penn in a semi state semifinal match.
On Thursday, Jacqueline Sasso lost 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 singles for the Tigers.
Warsaw seniors Sarah Boyle and Rachel Alexander lost at No. 2 and 3 singles respectively. Boyle dropped a 6-0, 6-3 final and Alexander a 6-1, 6-2 decision.
The Warsaw No. 1 doubles team of Camille Kerlin and Anna Hall lost 6-0, 6-3. The No. 2 doubles duo of Abbi Baum and Athena Schlitt lost 6-4, 6-1.
Warsaw drops to 4-8 on the season. The Tigers, who are 1-5 in conference play, will host Goshen Monday in the final league match. The Northern Lakes Conference tourney then begins on Wednesday at Warsaw. The tourney continues next Thursday at Concord with the final round on Friday back at Warsaw.
The Warsaw junior varsity lost by an 11-3 count Thursday. Winning for the JV Tigers were Mattie Doran and Sydney Hartman in singles play and the doubles team of Daniele Straits and Sydney Peugh.
The Warsaw JV team hosts its own invitational on Saturday.
