Camp Whitley Makes Appointments And Preparations
The Camp Whitley Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Lauren Strandlund, the assistant director from 2013, will be stepping into the role of interim director for the summer of 2014.
During the summer of 2013, Camp Whitley began a new era with a new director, Josh Wall. In addition to being an elementary teacher and Camp Whitley Director, Josh is an active member of the Army Reserve. Camp Whitley is proud that Josh will be serving the country during the summer of 2014 in training sessions, however, that means he will not be able to serve as the director for this summer.
Camp Whitley is very proud of the work Josh Wall and Lauren Strandlund completed last summer as the leaders of camp, and the board is excited about the forward progression of camp that Lauren will continue in the wake of Josh’s Army training. Certainly Josh will be missed this summer, but his service to our country further demonstrates the excellent leadership that Camp Whitley is currently following.
The Camp Whitley 5K Fun Run/Walk and pancake breakfast/open house will be beginning at 8 a.m. June 8, and invites all past, current, and future campers of Camp Whitley and their parents, and all friends of Camp Whitley to come visit Camp and welcome back Lauren. Most counselors will be returning and available to meet on June 8, as well as current board members.
Camp Whitley will once again be offering the only summer residential camp opportunity for boys and girls ages 7-14 in Whitley County this summer. The following are the dates for each age group:
- Fun Night will be held June 13-14 for first time campers ages 7-8. The event requires a non-refundable deposit of $20 to register. The $20 deposit may then be transferred to the full week registration fee. Returning Boys ages 7-8 are welcomed June 15-21; boys 9-11 years old will be from June 22-28; boys 12-14 will be hosted June 29 to July 5; girls ages 12-14 will be hosted from July 6-12; girls 9-11 will be hosted from July 13-19; girls ages 7-8 will be hosted July 20-26.
The fee for a week of camp at Camp Whitley remains at $285 per week. The Board of Directors understand the need to keep the fee low, and are proud that the quality of camp programming remains the highest in the area, but is still at an affordable rate. There will once again be limited scholarships available.
