Ruth E. Weldy, 76, of Nappanee, Ind., passed away at 11:30 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born on April 11, 1938, in Wakarusa, Ind., to Paul and Elsie (Hostetler) Stahly. She was a 1956 graduate of Wakarusa High School, a 1960 graduate of Goshen College and she also received a masters degree in elementary education from Ball State University. She married David Weldy on June 3, 1961, in Nappanee.

Ruth taught school in Bremen and in Wa-Nee School Districts. She also taught for Wa-Nee Released Time Bible Program. She taught pre-school at North Main Mennonite Church and she was a substitute teacher. She taught for 2 years at an Amish school and also had worked for Cardinal Center. She was a member of the North Main Mennonite Church, where she taught sunday school for many years. Ruth and her husband David were Missionaries from 1968-1974 in Congo, Africa with the Mennonite Central Committee. Ruth loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandkids. 
She also enjoyed reading, puzzles and traveling. 

 

She is survived by her husband; a daughter: Michelle (Nathan) Oliver, Elkhart, Ind.; a son: Mark (Kelly) Weldy, Elkhart; six grandchildren: Mian, Noel and Erin Scott; Brendan Oliver; Nicholas and Maggie Weldy; two sisters: Esther (Leon) Farmwald, Goshen; Darlene (Mark) Weaver, Newton, Kansas; and a brother: Pete (Pat) Stahly, Goshen. 

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home in Nappanee and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, at North Main Street Mennonite Church, Nappanee. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the church. Reverend Rueben Chupp will officiate. He will be assisted by Reverendj Kevin Farmwald, Ruth’s nephew.

Memorial Contributions may be given to Goshen College.
