Atwood Fire Department was called to 3802 W. 100 North today where the wind is being blamed for spreading a small grass fire and destroying a home.

Tankers from Etna Green and Warsaw fire departments were called to assist and manpower from Winona Lake Fire Department was also on scene.

DSC_5087According to the tenant, Jim Evans, his 13-year-old son was outside playing with some type of BB gun that used an air canister. The canister sparked and caught some tall grass on fire. “I tried to put it out, but the wind just carried it right to the house,” said Evans.

No one was hurt in the blaze, which destroyed the residence. Evans did not have insurance. He and one other adult resided in the home. The Kosciusko County Chapter of the American Red Cross was called to assist the two residents.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department assisted on scene.
