WARSAW – Warsaw Community High School senior Matt Williams has been a fixture in the Tigers’ soccer lineup the past four seasons, spending those years shutting down opponents while setting up teammates.

The speedy and gritty play not only helped Williams demonstrate versatility on the pitch, it helped land him the opportunity to compete at the next level after high school.

Williams signed a Letter of Intent this week to attend the University of Findlay and compete in soccer for the Oilers and head coach Andy Smyth.

With a career assists performance that landed Williams in the top five in the history of the Tiger men’s soccer program, Williams has been a part of four sectional championships, three regional and semi state championships and Final Four performances, as well as one state runner-up finish.  A three-year starter for Tiger coach Scott Bauer’s program, Williams was selected to the All Northern Lakes Conference Honorable Mention team last year and was named All Conference in his senior season.  Williams also helped his summer club program reach the state finals this past summer.

While Williams has created attention on the soccer field, the senior has made a visible impact in the school and community as well.  A member of the staff working the Agaitas Soccer Camp – a free camp for area children, Williams has also served with the Baker Street Youth Program, and he was a part of the Heartline Pregnancy Campaign Volunteers this past year.

Williams, who earned Scholar Athlete designation with a 9.56 GPA on a 12-point scale, plans to major in physical therapy.  The University of Findlay competes in NCAA Division II and in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
