Webster Chamber ‘Looks Away’ To Dixie Day
Plans for Dixie Day dominated the meeting of the North Webster-Tippecanoe Township Chamber of Commerce. Held at the American Legion Post 253, members were encouraged to join a committee for the annual chamber-sponsored event. It will be held Saturday, July 26, downtown, at the festival grounds and at North Webster Town Park.
The Dixie Day celebration includes an art fair, antique fair, food and craft vendors, car show, and extra cruises on the Dixie stern wheel paddle boat that the event honors. The Dixie has been plying the waters of Webster Lake since 1929 and is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
Chairman of Dixie Day is chamber president Sue Ward with board members Brenda Peterson in charge of the 5K run; Stacey Cox heading the food vendors; Karilyn Metcalf, chamber booth; Jeremy Likens, barricades; and Ward, the art fair. Chris Waldrop will chair the car show. Chairmen are still needed for hospitality room, setup and cleanup.
“It takes everyone to successfully put on Dixie Day,” noted Ward. Those who’d like to assist should call the chamber 574-834-7076 and leave a message or go to the chamber’s Facebook page.
The North Webster Community Guide is under production and will be widely distributed in May. Thirty-one bags of shoes have been filled and more are needed for the chamber’s shoe drive. Drop off used shoes at the chamber office or at several locations around town.
North Webster American Legion will host a business loan program 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, while the North Webster Community Center, Lakeland Kiwanis and North Webster Lions are joining together for a Community Easter Celebration, Saturday, April 19.
The Webster Lake Conservation Association has launched a “savers card” for paid members and will be approaching businesses about taking part. The next general membership meeting will be held at noon Monday, May 12 at the American Legion Post 253, 759 S. SR 13.
