Silver Lake Firefighters douse the burning remnants of a shed at a home on West 950 South.

Silver Lake Fire Chief Morris Jones said a small fire in an outside burn ring spread to dry pine needles, which ignited a fence row and a shed at 3354 W. 950 S., Silver Lake, Sunday afternoon, ultimately resulting in an explosion.

Adam Culp told StaceyPageOnline.com that he was driving past the home, owned by Brandon and Stefanie Newcomer, and saw the shed on fire. “I backed up and banged on the door telling them it was on fire,” Culp said. “They were in the house and had no idea.”

Inside the shed was a 20-pound propane tank on a gas grill, which exploded in the fire. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Morris said the homeowners told them they did have a small fire in the burn ring but believed they had put out. The heat of the fire caused siding on the west and north sides of the home to melt, resulting in about $5,000 worth of damages.
