UPDATE: Warsaw Police continue to investigate an alleged stabbing that occurred at approximately 8:35 p.m. in a home near the city’s downtown.

According to a press release sent this morning from WPD, police and EMS were dispatched to the 400 block of South High Street where an alleged stabbing and burglary occurred. Officers arrived and found a 54-year-old female victim lying in the entry of her upstairs apartment with injuries to her stomach area.

Medics and fire personnel treated the victim and she was transported by ambulance to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne where she is currently in stable condition.

The victim initially told police she had just returned home, unlocked her apartment, and carried two bags inside to her kitchen. When she went back out to retrieve another item, she saw two men inside her apartment who demanded her wallet and car keys.

The victim alleged that she gave the men her wallet and as she was searching for her keys, she was stabbed. Said said the men fled south from the apartment and claimed they were wearing ski masks, black clothes and gloves.

Area law enforcement searched the area for hours, instructing area residents to stay inside and lock their doors while police K9’s attempted to track the alleged suspects.

At this time, investigators are still trying to determine whether the incident actually occurred as alleged.

BREAKING: We are still attempting to gather information this evening about a possible stabbing in the 400 block of High Street in Warsaw.

Warsaw Police and Multi-Township EMS were called to a home near the intersection of High Street and Winona Avenue where residents say one person was taken from a residence on a stretcher. Police were also ordering people to stay in their homes and lock their doors, according to several different witnesses, who said they were told two suspects were being sought and those suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.
