images-7MARION – It was a record-setting day for the Warsaw girls track team Saturday.

Led by Samantha Alexander, the Tigers smashed three previous school standards during the Hoosier State Relays State Meet.

Alexander had a hand, or in this case two strong legs, in a pair of record-setting performances in the indoor season finale held at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Alexander broke the old school mark in the long jump with a top leap of 17’8.5. Her effort, which was good for a seventh-place finish to earn All-State honors, bested the old mark of 16’8.75.

Alexander also teamed with Mariah Harter, Audrey Rich and Ann Harvuot to break their own school record (set a week ago) in the 4 X 200 relay event. The foursome clocked in at 1:47.79 to place ninth.

The third record performance and second All-State effort came from the 4 X 800 relay team of Hannah Dawson, Brooke Rhodes, Anna Craig and Allison Miller. The foursome placed seventh in a school record time of 9:52.75.

The 4 X 400 relay team of Dawson, Nicole Eckert, Jackie Ferguson and Tennie Worrell placed 13th in a season best time of 4:12.88.

Courtney Farling placed 18th in the long jump with a top effort of 16′ 8.75, which tied the previous school record that Alexander broke on Saturday.

Brooklyn Harrison finished 22nd in the shot put with a top throw of 34’3 and the Distance Medley Relay team of Claire Kehler, Aletheia Burritt, Madeline Hooks and Emma Hayward placed 21st in a time of 13:48.36.

Claire Hickerson also competed in her third straight State Meet in the pole vault.

Coach Scott Erba’s team is scheduled for two home meets this week to open its outdoor season. The Tigers are slated to host Penn, South Bend Washington and Huntington North Wednesday and host Kokomo and Bremen Friday. Both meets are scheduled for 5 p.m. starts at WCHS.
