ANGOLA – A trio of record-setting performances highlighted a strong showing by the Warsaw girls track team Saturday in a Hoosier State Relays Qualifier held at Trine University.
Ann Harvuot played a part in two of the three record-setting efforts by coach Scott Erba’s squad.
Harvuot placed second in the 60-meter dash in a school record time of 8.15, breaking the old school standard of 8.24. Harvuot also teamed with Mariah Harter, Audrey Rich and Sam Alexander to set a new school mark in the 4 X 200 relay in a time of 1:48.54. The second-place finish topped the old school record of 1:49.42.
Jackie Ferguson set the third school record in the trials. Ferguson clocked in at 9.73 in the 60-meter hurdles, topping the old school standard of 9.85.
Warsaw had six other individuals turn in performances to qualify for the HSR State Meet on March 22 at Indiana Wesleyan University. The Tigers also had all four of its relays solidify spots in the State Meet.
Ferguson, after her record-setting effort in the trials, went on to place second in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.89. Allison Miller was second in the 3,200 in 11:44.72. Claire Hickerson placed second in the pole vault by clearing 10-0 and Alexander was second in the long jump with a top leap of 16-8. Brooklyn Harrison took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 36’7.5 and Courtney Farling was fifth in the long jump with a top effort of 16-2.5.
The Distance Medley Relay tam of Miller, Kenzie Merchant, Brooke Rhodes and Hannah Dawson was first in a time of 13:21.33. The 4 X 400 relay team of Nicole Eckert, Haley Peterson, Ferguson and Tennie Worrell was second in a time of 4:17.59. The 4 X 800 relay team of Anna Craig, Claire Kehler, Emma Hayward and Hannh Thompson placed third with a time of 10:48.04.
Warsaw will take part in the HSR State Meet next Saturday at IWW. The Tigers are scheduled to open their outdoor season by hosting Penn, South Bend Washington and Huntington North on March 26.
