Second-Half Surge Sinks Whitko

Whitko-Icon-130x130SOUTH WHITLEY – A big second half carried Southern Wells past Whitko Wednesday night in prep boys basketball action.

The Wildcats trailed just 24-20 at halftime before being outscored 42-28 in the final half to drop a 66-48 final.

Southern Wells, which improves to 4-12, hit seven treys in the win to none for the hosts and were also 17-23 from the free throw line.

Senior Dylan Cumberland led the Wildcats with 20 points.

Sophomore Devon Adkins had 13 points and freshman Nate Walpole scored 11 for Whitko, which lost its 13th straight game to fall to 1-16 on the season.

Keenan Mooberry netted 16 points to lead four players in double figures for Southern Wells.

Whitko hosts Churbusco Saturday. The Wildcats then play at Northfield Feb. 25 and host NorthWood Feb. 28 to close out the regular season. Southern Wells plays at Blackford Friday night.
