NWS Issues Winter Storm Warning
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Kosciusko County from 1 p.m. today until 4 p.m. Wednesday. According to the NWS, the storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall as well as blowing and drifting snow.
Very heavy snow is developing that will bring 1 to 2 inches of snow per hour yet tonight. Another round of heavy snow, according to IndianaWeatherOnline is back in Kansas, Iowa and Missouri and will push toward northern and central Indiana and western Ohio later tonight and early tomorrow.
Meanwhile heavy sleet and freezing rain continues in southern and southeastern Indiana and western Ohio.
Snow is expected to overspread the area this afternoon and evening and will be heavy at times this evening into tonight. According to the NWS, total accumulations are expected to reach between 6 to 10 inches by midday Wednesday in the southern half of the county with lower snowfall amounts possible in the northern half of the county.
Areas of blowing and drifting snow will develop tonight and will continue into Wednesday. Increasing north winds will mostly affect east to west roads.
The NWS projects that roads will become snow covered, and reduced visibility in occasional heavy snowfall will produce extremely hazardous travel conditions by tonight. A difficult Wednesday morning commute should be expected by drivers tomorrow.
The NWS reminds that a Winter Storm Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous. The NWS urges drivers to only drive in an emergency during this storm. If you must drive, the NWS suggest that you keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
