Bedelia B. Weirick, 85, of Grace Village, Winona Lake, Ind., and formerly of rural Tippecanoe, Ind., and Mentone, Ind., passed away at 11:50 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Rivercrest Specialty Hospital of Mishawaka, Ind.
She was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Marshall County, Ind., to Raymond R. and Helen A. (Darr) Weirick.
She was a graduate from Wheaton College in Illinios and from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind. She taught in Aledo, Ill.; Wayland, Mich.; Markham, Ill. and Warsaw and finished her teaching career at Manchester College of North Manchester, Ind.
During her years of teaching, she was very active in the State Health, Physical Education and athletic organizations, holding many offices. She was chosen as the outstanding cheerleader sponsor in the nation while teaching at Warsaw. She was honored by being voted into the Manchester College Athletic Hall of Fame as a coach.
In her retirement she was director for the Mentone Nutrition Site for 18 years. She planned and directed the “Scrambled Egg Band” in Mentone. She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Mentone. She was an avid IU basketball fan.
She is survived by nephews: Robert and Bill Weirick; and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone. Services will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastors Joe Olson and Mike Wilhite. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery, Mentone, Ind.
