Evelyn Marie Bennett, 86, of Pierceton, Ind., passed away at 4:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at her home.
She was born on May 26, 1927, in Bowling Green, Ky., to James H. and Mammie E. She grew up in Indianapolis, Ind., and graduated from Washington High School. On Sept. 5, 1948, in Indianapolis, Ind., she married Reverend James V. ‘Jim’ Bennett who preceded her in death.
She had previously worked for Eli Lily in the quality department, as a secretary for several United Methodist churches, She was an Avon sales lady. She moved to the Kuhn Lake area in 1986 from Dayton and had previously lived in Acton, Ind., Goodland, Ind., Gary, Ind., Rensselaer, Ind., Churubusco, Ind., and Winamac, Ind., where her husband was minister of local churches.
She was a member of the North Webster United Methodist Church and the Women’s Mission Fellowship.
She is survived by two daughters: Karen (Jay) Harris, Pierceton; Marilyn (Doug) Akers, Lebanon, Ind.; two sons: Mark (Susan) Bennett, Richmond, Va.; and Tim (Colleen) Bennett, Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a sister: Earlene Bonesteel, Indianapolis; sister-in-law: Alice Bennett; brother-in-laws: Michael and Bernard Bennett .
She was preceded by her parents; husband; sister: Phyllis Smith; and three brothers: Kenneth, J.R. and Carl Miller
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Owen Family Funeral Home, SR 13 and CR 500 North, North Webster. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday Dec. 29, at the North Webster United Methodist Church, 7822 E. Epworth Forest Rd. with Pastor David Smitley of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mock Addition of the North Webster Cemetery.
