Winter storms are expected to arrive in our area this evening and the American Red Cross of Kosciusko County is urging families to take action and be prepared ahead of the storm. Everyone should have emergency supplies for the entire household at home and in their vehicles.

The Red Cross recommends having the following items on hand in a convenient spot:

  • At least a 3-day supply of water (one gallon per person per day) and non-perishable food;
  • A flashlight, battery-powered NOAA Weather Radio and extra batteries;
  • A well-stocked first aid kit;
  • A 7-day supply of medications and medical items; and
  • Supplies for babies and pets

There are many other safety recommendations for being prepared ahead of the storm and what to do after the storm at: redcross.org. People can also learn what to do in an emergency by downloading the free American Red Cross First Aid App available through the link.
