Music lovers are invited to brush the dust off of their instruments and come to Whitko High School at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27. Once a year, the school invites everyone who might be itching to find a place to jam to come to a varsity game and play with the band.

According to Whitko Band Director Joseph Shepherd, it’s always great for the kids to see that people can still play after high school, and get to know fellow community members. It’s also a great reason for you to find that saxophone that’s been hiding in the attic since high school.

Shepherd urges attendees to not be concerned with talent levels or ability or if you didn’t go to Whitko. Dust off your instrument, remind yourself of a few notes and come for a fun time of playing with fellow lovers of music.

Music will include a broad range of oldies from the 50’s and 60’s to pop hits of today. The band even enjoys throwing in a few dance songs to get peopled up and grooving in the stands. If you’ve never played an instrument, then invite someone that did. Shepherd also invites the public to come to the game to cheer on Whitko’s basketball team while hopefully listening to some enjoyable music. Spread the word and let people know. This is always a highlight of the band’s year.

In addition to the music and basketball showcase, a Baked Potato Bar will be held the evening before the start of the game in the high school cafeteria. Baked potatoes will be served with a variety of toppings including butter, sour cream, bacon, chili sauce, cheese, salsa, broccoli, onions and peppers. Meals will also include a drink and a cookie.

No one wants to cook the night before Thanksgiving, so come have a bite to eat with the coolest band in the world, and then stay to help cheer the Wildcats on to victory over Columbia City. You may purchase tickets from Shepherd or a high school band student for $5 (whole potato) or $3 (half of a potato). Prices are $6 and $4 at the door. Carryout is available. Serving starts at 5 p.m. and go until 7 p.m. or until we run out.
