FORT WAYNE – The Grace College women’s basketball team got a taste of NCAA Division I basketball on Wednesday with an exhibition game at IPFW.

The Lady Lancers fell 99-54 at the Gates Sports Center as the Mastodons overwhelmed the Lady Lancers in a countable game for IPFW.

Grace actually jumped in front of IPFW at the start as 3-pointers from Juaneice Jackson and Dariyan Morris lifted the Lady Lancers to a 6-2 lead.

The Mastodons (2-4) kicked their offense into high gear shortly afterwards, however. IPFW exploded with a 29-2 run to open up a 28-point lead.

Jackson, plagued with three fouls in the first half, still managed to score 10 points to pace the Lady Lancers. Grace’s ball-handling struggles without starting point guard Gabby Bryant continued to hamper the team on offense. Grace committed 12 turnovers in the first 20 minutes and made just 31 percent of their shot attempts.

IPFW made a sizzling 7-of-9 from beyond the arc as Grace struggled to keep pace with the Mastodons’ offense, trailing 58-26 at the half.

Grace was stronger defensively in the second half and was outscored by just 13 points after halftime. The Lady Lancers, who trailed by as many as 46 points in the second half, used a 10-2 run to trim IPFW’s lead to 73-43 with 12:06 to play.

But the Mastodons’ tenacity at both ends of the court got the better of the Lady Lancers. They scored 19 points off turnovers in the second half and 32 points off turnovers overall.

The Lady Lancers had 13 players see the court against IPFW, and 11 of those players scored a point.

Jackson scored 10 points with an assist in 23 minutes before fouling out, and Morris added 10 points and four boards. Allison Kauffman registered nine points and three boards, Jesse Feitz pulled down five boards and JoEllen FIckel tallied five points.

Grace will look to pick up its third win of the season on Saturday when they travel to Rochester College.
