Activities at the End of November

Story time for children meets a couple more times. Children are invited to come for pre-reading activities at 10:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday. The home-schoolers group is meeting 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. Home schooling families are welcome to come to the Syracuse Library to meet other families and explore resources through group support. The children will spend time with the children’s librarian.

Young adults have a pre-holiday party where they can practice some group games to share with family and friends during the holidays. The teens meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19. Young people that attend the YA New-book Club have a chance to be the first to view and check-out the latest YA books.

Children’s Librarian Learns Skills
Gisela Vore has worked full-time at the Syracuse Library for the past 17 years. During that time she has taken classes to obtain an associates degree in Early Childhood Development. Vore is a life long learner. She moved from Germany with English as a second language. She is an avid storyteller who enjoys interacting with children.

The Syracuse Elementary School has provided a great experience for Vore. The staff, teachers and students have been very gracious and welcoming. Janell Eltzroth, a kindergarten teacher, is a model of positive interaction with children in the classroom. Vore says that doing this internship has helped her recognize what children are able to do.

Normally, Mrs. Vore interacts with younger children. She is now better able to see how early learning skills relate to kindergarten activities. The children’s department at the Syracuse Library provides two eight-week story time sessions each year, summer sessions of stories, crafts and songs, along with early literacy programs to local daycares and preschools. Vore feels that early childhood education represents one of the best contributions we can make in our community.
