WARSAW – A long-standing class for toddlers that has been offered in Syracuse is moving to Warsaw.
The Romp & Roll program was designed to develop the mind and body through creative movement. Instructor Nika Prather, who has taught the class through Lakeland Youth Center for nearly two decades, is taking the class to Warsaw’s Midwest Xtreme.
“There is a huge interconnection between physical, social/emotional and cognitive development and physical activity,” Prather stated, who has coached gymnastics at Wawasee High School for over 25 years. “The largest window of opportunity for brain growth is from infancy to age five. When toddlers and preschoolers improve their physical skills through movement and play, they stimulate the growth of their brain, enhancing the ability to learn. It’s the body that teaches the brain, not the other way around.”
Prather’s classes have children work through a series of physical and mental activities, including jumping, recognizing colors, climbing obstacles, tumbling and vocally responding to encouragement.
Midwest Xtreme, located just west of WalMart on US 30, will host the new classes, which are for toddlers ages 1-3 with a participating adult, and preschoolers from 3-6 years old.
