Wawasee logoVolleyball Struggles Continue

After a red hot start to the season, Wawasee’s volleyball program has cooled off somewhat of late. The cooling trend continued Monday as visiting Westview beat Wawasee 21-25, 25-16, 25-14, 25-18.

In a similar case to the loss against Goshen last Thursday, Wawasee put together big statistical numbers but could not translate the output into points on the board.

Alli Ousley had 26 assists and six kills while Lydia Katsaropoulos added 15 digs and 10 kills. Hunter Gaerte added 16 digs and nine kills while Aly Anderson had 40 digs on the night.

Wawasee (11-5), which won nine of its first 10 matches to start the season, have not won a weekday dual match since Sept. 3.

“It was a great effort again by our girls that just didn’t translate into a victory,” said Wawasee head coach Jeff Phillips. “We have a tough Northern Lakes Conference match on Thursday (at Concord) and then our home tournament on Saturday.”

Westview also got the best of the Wawasee JV team, winning 25-24, 25-13. Seaquinn Bright had nine digs, three aces and two kills while Becca Anderson added 13 digs and three kills for Wawasee, now 7-5 on the season.

Concordia Shuts Out Wawasee

A goal in the first half and one more in the second half were all Fort Wayne Concordia needed to take care of business in girls soccer, taking the match at Wawasee 2-0.

Concordia found the net in the 17th minute and again in the 74th minute. The goal scorers for the Lady Cadets were not listed.

Wawasee falls to 0-10 on the season.

“I am proud of the effort our team gave,” said Wawasee head coach Doug Heinisch. “Even though this was not one of our best played games, we never quit. There are things that we can do better, and we will keep working on them. We are getting better overall.”

Wawasee will get back at it Thursday at DeKalb.
