Doris Madge (Cline) Smythe, 103, of Winona Lake, Ind., passed away at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at Grace Village Health Care of Winona Lake.
She was born Nov. 16, 1909, in Belle Union, Ind., at the family farm home to Jesse Ellsworth Cline and Myrtle Florence (Moser) Cline. On June 15, 1929, she was married to Deward Wendell Smythe, who preceded her in death. They lived most of their life in Greencastle, Ind., in Putnam County.
She was a member of Gobin Methodist Church in Greencastle and had been active in her earlier years with church activities. She had been on the church building project. Madge was a loving mother and wife, a homemaker who enjoyed her sewing club and loved to play bridge. An avid painter, she was always working on something creative, such as needlepoint, crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by her daughter: Shirley “Sue” Fuson, Warsaw, Ind.; one granddaughter: Susan Lynn Dean, Kansas City, Kan.; one grandson: Robert Fuson II, Warsaw; three great-grandchildren: Jeremiah Dean, Keena Dean and A.J. Dean, all of Kansas City; and one great-great-granddaughter: Bella Marie Dean, Kansas City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, two brothers, and a grandson: Brian Lee Fuson.
At her request there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle, and officiated by Pastor Wes Kendall.
