GARRETT – It was a championship day on Saturday for the Tippecanoe Valley volleyball team.
The Vikings topped host Garrett in the championship match to win the invitational title.
Valley, coached by Mallory Eaton, beat Garrett 25-11, 23-25, 15-9 in the finale.
The Vikings had went 2-1 in pool play, losing in three sets to Garrett. Valley defeated Hamilton 25-14, 25-12 and Eastside 25-17, 25-17 and lost to Garrett 25-21, 20-25, 14-16.
Kelsey Ball had a big day for the champions with 38 kills to go with a team-high nine aces and five blocks.
Caylie Teel led the defense on the day with 46 digs and Jaden Biddle was outstanding too with 43. Lauren Early had 26 digs.
Anne Secrest was second in hitting with 18 kills. Setter Tenaya Shull racked up 64 assists and Kelsey Eckert had 26 for the Vikings.
Valley Runners Compete at Caston
The Valley boys and girls cross country teams competed Saturday in the Caston Invitational.
The Viking boys team finished in 11th place out of 19 teams. South Bend Adams won the team title with a score of 54. The Vikings scored 293.
Brandon Maull led Valley by placing 34th overall in a time of 18:49.
Jessie Floor was 48th in the boys race for Valley in a time of 19:27, followed by teammates Noah Clampitt in 73rd (20:35), Tom Solano in 85th (21:04), Mark Hicks in 90th (21:32), Jered Mikel in 99th (21:22) and Tyler Ross in 109th (22:27).
The Valley girls team placed 14th with a team score of 331. Adams also won the girls title with a score of 55.
Brooklyn Conley led the Vikings by placing 47th overall in a time of 24:05. Brynda Krueger was 75th in 24:59, with Sierra Reed 86th in 27:26, Jenna Schultz 93rd in 28:11 and Tori Miller 103rd in 31:28.
