images-7Danielle Hutcherson powered the Warsaw girls soccer team to a 3-0 win at Argos Saturday.

Hutcherson, a junior captain for the Tigers, tallied a pair of first-half goals in the contest.

The Tigers scored all three of their goals in the first 25 minutes of the non-conference match.

Junior Brooklyn Jackson, the leading scorer for Warsaw, found the net first in the eighth minute off a great assist from sophomore Elizabeth VanWormer.

Hutcherson blasted a ball in from about 40 yards out in the 20th minute to make it 2-0. Hutcherson capped her fine day in the 25th minute with her second goal off a corner kick from Jackson.

Standout keeper Abby Schue had six saves in the goal for the Tigers.

Warsaw coach Peter Lucht cited the outstanding play of Schue, Hutcherson, Jackson and Clair Snodgrass.

Warsaw improves to 3-2-2 on the season.

The Warsaw junior varsity team posted a 1-0 win on a goal by Christina Tiahueti. The Tiger JV is now 3-2.

Warsaw, which is 1-1-1 in NLC play, hosts Elkhart Memorial Tuesday and Concord Thursday in conference action.

 

Tennis Team Edged By Crown Point

A sweep of the doubles courts powered No. 14 Crown Point past host Warsaw 3-2 in boys tennis play Saturday.

Will Petro and Evan Miller each won in three sets in singles play to lead Warsaw.

Petro claimed a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-6) win at No. 2 singles and Miller collected a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles for the host Tigers.

Sam Rice lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for Warsaw.

The Tigers lost both doubles matches in straight sets. The duo of Kyle Wettschurack and Nic Jansen lost 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 at No. 1 and the team of Ryan Wettschurack and Christopher Herendeen dropped a 6-2, 6-4 final at No. 2.

Warsaw falls to 6-3 on the season.

Crown Point won the junior varsity action 8-6. Winners for the Tigers were Justin Stout and David Homme in singles play and the doubles teams of Drew McCollom and Hudson Snyder, Chris Stichter and Wesley Shuler, Keeton Bartel and Jean-Luc Baldwin and Evan Ousley and Hayden Steger.

Warsaw, which is 3-0 in conference play, hosts Northridge Tuesday in a league matchup.

Boys’ Soccer Squad Collects Two Wins

Coach Scott Bauer’s powerful team returned to its winning ways on Saturday.

The Class 2-A No. 4 Tigers picked up a pair of wins in the Fort Wayne Carroll Classic Tournament.

Warsaw, coming off three straight ties last week, defeated Fort Wayne South 3-0 in a loser’s bracket game. The Tigers were in the loser’s bracket after tying Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian 0-0 Thursday in the tourney and then losing the contest in penalty kicks.

Matt Williams, Stephen Kolbe and Zach Tucker each had a goal in the win. Tito Cuellar picked up two assists for the Tigers.

Warsaw had a 17-3 edge in shots, including 8-0 on goal. The Tigers had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Tucker had two goals and an assist in the second game as Warsaw beat Westview 4-1.

Sam Allbritten and Williams each added one goal for the Tigers. Manuel Rodriguez notched two assists in the win.

Warsaw had a 12-5 edge in shots and 5-2 on goal. The Tigers had five corner kicks to none for the Warriors.

Warsaw, which also had ties with Penn and NLC foe Concord last week, plays a conference match at Elkhart Memorial Tuesday. The Tigers then play at Carroll Saturday and host NLC foe NorthWood on Sept. 17.
