UPDATE: A 21-month-old Milford boy is recovering today after being bitten in the head by the family dog.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded with paramedics from Multi-Township EMS to 11625 N. 200 W., Milford, at 8:43 p.m. Thursday  after receiving a 9-1-1 call.

Lutheran Air transported the child due to a deep laceration the child sustained to an area just over his eye that extended to about the center of his head. He was last reported in serious condition.

Officers were advised by the toddler’s mother, Amanda King, that her son had been petting the family’s 8-year-old Great Dane when he inadvertently stepped on dog’s paw. That action caused the dog to immediately turn-around and bite the male toddler.

The dog has been quarantined for 10 days according to KCSD Deputy Mike Fowler.

Also assisting at the scene were Indiana State Police and Milford Fire Department.
