lamarLamar C. Paflas, 89, of Goshen, Ind., passed away in the morning on Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he was transferred after being involved in a traffic accident.

Lamar was born Sept. 17, 1923, in Goshen, to Nicholas G. and Leona (Long) Paflas. On Feb. 12, 1943, he married Margaret Ann Hickey. She preceded him in death. On Oct. 27, 1976, Lamar married Margaret Ann ‘Peg’ Hoke Simpson.

At age 10, Lamar started working at the Olympia Candy Kitchen for his father. Lamar was owner and operator of Olympia for a number of years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Goshen, since 1943, and a charter member of Maplecrest Country Club, where he loved to golf. He served during WW II in the U.S. Army Aircorp in the Pacific in Okinawa, and belonged to the American Legion Post #30 and the VFW Post #985.

He is survived by is a daughter: Kathy (Kare) Andersen, Syracuse, Ind.; two step-daughters: Ginger Miller and Shelly Simpson, both of Goshen; a daughter-in-law: Jan Paflas, Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Lamar was preceded in death by a son: Dr. Daniel Paflas; and a grandson: Douglas Johnston.

There will be no visitation. A private family burial will take place at Violett Cemetery and a public memorial service will be held at a later date. Yoder-Culp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
