A motocross participant was initially said to be in critical condition after missing a jump and crashing during a show at the Kosciusko County Community Fair.

According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department report, Harold Strauss, 36, of Collbran, Colo., was attempting to make a jump and was airborne when he lost control of his Yamaha 250 motorcycle and became separated from it. Strauss fell on the landing ramp and was then struck or was struck by his motorcycle.

The accident happened during the U.S. National Freestyle Motocross Championship Series show.

Samaritan air ambulance was initially called, but a Multi-Township EMS paramedic on scene disregarded the helicopter and Strauss was ground transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne where he was admitted into ICU. Today, officials say Strauss is hospitalized in good condition.

MTEMS was assisted at the scene by personnel from Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Department and Winona Lake Fire Department.
