Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. team, the county’s crash investigation team, is currently investigating an accident at Center and Detroit streets in Warsaw that critically injured a Warsaw teenager.

At 10:05 a.m. members of the Warsaw City Police Department and other emergency personnel responded to a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Austin Valentine, 15, is listed in critical condition with severe head trauma.

According to Sgt. Chad Hill of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Valentine reportedly entered the westbound crosswalk at the intersection of Center and Detroit Streets when he was struck by an eastbound van driven by Boyd Zickafoose, 62, of Columbia City. Valentine, who was reportedly skateboarding at the time of the accident, went airborne.

Samaritan Air ambulance was called to land in Central Park to airlift the teen to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Hill said Valentine suffered massive head injuries and is in critical condition.

The Kosciusko County F.A.C.T. Team was also assisted at the scene by the Warsaw/Wayne Township Fire Department, Multi-Township E.M.S., Warsaw City Police Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, and the Indiana State Police.
