A number of years ago my children found an old, long-forgotten typewriter stuffed away in a closet. They were fascinated with the discovery of this “ancient” piece of equipment. Today letters and documents are typed on computers. If you haven’t had the opportunity to learn how, now is your chance.

The Library will be offering a two-part class that will teach you how to use Microsoft Word to generate text documents on the computer. The first Microsoft Word class will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, followed by the second class at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18. The class is free, but advanced registration is required. Because class size is limited, sign up early at the front desk to reserve your spot.

Other adult programs next week include at Writer’s Corner at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, and READ Book Club also at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 15. Writer’s Corner is a group of people who like to write and meet monthly to share their writings, ideas, techniques and encouragement. During Monday’s meeting, the group will share their essays on deep sea fishing. The READ Book Club gets together to discuss Private Mary Chestnut C. Vann Woodward and Elisabeth Muhlenfeld. Stop by the Adult Services Department to get a copy of the book and join in the discussion. Next month’s discussion will be about the book Deadlock by Iris Johansen.

The Youth Services Department will be full of laughs with impromptu comedy during Teen Comedy Improv at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the Library Meeting Room. Instructor Jessica Hardy will show the teens how to improvise “in-the-moment” comedy routines. It’ll be a blast, so invite your friends for a hilarious good time.

The youth Summer Reading Program continues with kids earning prizes for every 5 hours of reading they complete. Saturday, July 27, will be the last day to pick up prizes, so keep the kids reading until then. The Grand Finale Picnic will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 31 at with more fun and prizes.
