Religious Series At Oakwood Chapel Starts Sunday
Neighbors in Our World II, a religious series, begins Sunday, June 23, in Syracuse.
Chautauqua-Wawasee’s “Neighbors in Our World II, Gathering around the Table” provides a setting for encountering diverse cultures. Everyone is welcome at the table.
Each speaker will challenge participants to a new encounter with food for thought, enrichment culturally where diversity is celebrated within the unity of humanity. Sessions will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays at the Oakwood Chapel in Syracuse.
There is no cost to attend this event thanks to the support of generous donors and sponsors, all “Neighbors in Our World II” lectures are free and open to the public. Chautauqua-Wawasee does ask, however, that participants reserve a spot by calling 574-518-1094.
Other sessions in this Sunday afternoon series include: Dr. Ronald Caldwell will be presenting the first two sessions – Christians in the Holy Land.
All of the sessions will be as follows: Christians in the Holy Land I with Caldwell, June 23; Christians in the Holy Land II with Caldwell, July 14; Grassroots Peacemaking in the Middle East from a Christian perspective with John Lapp, MA, July 21; Muslim Christian Dialogue with Amir J. Tamir Rasheed, Dr. Terry Anderson and Dr. L. Michael Spath, July 28; How People of Different Faiths can work together for the common good with Dr. Kent Millard, Aug. 4.
Caldwell is a retired orthopedic surgeon who has traveled in Israel and Palestine and met with Jewish, Christian and Muslim peacemakers in the region including: Rev. Mitri Raheb, pastor at Christmas Lutheran Church, Bethlehem; AbunaElla Chacour, three-time Noble Peach Prize nominee and Archbishop of the Galilee; Daoud Nassar, Tent of Nations; Rabbi Arik Ascherman, Rabbis for Human Rights, Jerusalem; Zoughbi Zougbhi, Wiam Conflict Resolution Center, Bethlehem; Al-Haq Human Rights Organizations; Ramallah; and Dr. Bernard Sabella, Middle East Council of Churches, Department of Refugees.
