GREENFIELD – A pair of area junior standouts, Nikki Grose of Warsaw and Morgan Olson of NorthWood, helped the Indiana Jr. All-Stars defeated Kentucky in exhibition basketball action Friday night.
The Indiana squad post a 79-67 win over their Kentucky counterparts in the contest played at Greenfield Central High School.
Grose netted eight points for the winners, while Olson scored two. The duo are part of the North Six members of the Junior All-Star squad.
Grose, a 6-0 forward/center, helped Warsaw post a 24-2 mark this past season with NLC and Class 4-A sectional and regional championships. She averaged 11.8 points-per-game to rank second on her team and a team-high 9.5 rebounds-per-game.
Olson, a 5-11 forward, averaged a team-high 19.9 ppg. for coach Steve Neff. Olson helped lead the Panthers to a 22-4 mark, which included a Class 3-A sectional title.
Warsaw coach Michelle Harter is the coach of the Junior All-Star team this summer. Harter, who played at Wawasee High School, is 80-31 in her five seasons as head coach at WCHS.
Whitney Jennings of Logansport poured in 23 points and Kellie Kirkhoff of Roncalli had 17 Friday night to lead the Indiana squad.
The Indiana boys outlasted Kentucky 108-102 in overtime Friday night.
James Blackmon Jr. scored 27 points to pace Indiana to the victory.
Mack Mercer of Plymouth tallied nine points Friday night for the winning Jr. All-Star squad.
The Junior All-Star teams will play again tonight in Louisville. The Indiana Junior All-Stars will then play the Indiana Senior All-Star team in games on Monday night at Sullivan High School and Wednesday night at Tipton High School.
Indiana will face Kentucky in the annual All-Star series June 14 at Freedom Hall in Louisville and June 15 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Former Triton High School star Clay Yeo, who led the Trojans to a Class 1-A state runner-up finish this past season, is a member of the Indiana Boys All-Star team.
