Ball State University trustees will meet next week to discuss a proposed tuition increase. A university spokeswoman confirms the plan calls for a 2 percent hike in tuition and fees during each of the next two school years.

Treasurer Randy Howard says the increase falls within the guidelines of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

Earlier this month, the group told state colleges and universities to keep any increases under the current 2 percent rate of inflation.

A public hearing on the proposal is set for Wednesday. The board is slated to meet and vote on it Thursday.
