One of the best ways the public can see, up close, what Wawasee High School students are capable of creating is to attend the school’s annual art show. This year’s show will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 31, and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 1.

Student artwork will be displayed in the surge area near the auditorium and the work of seniors will be in the Learning Resources Center. Typically more than 1,000 pieces of artwork in many mediums are displayed each year.

Among the mediums are oil and watercolor paintings, colored, ebony and charcoal drawings, photography, computer graphics, ceramics and much more. A couple of examples this year include the photography work of Josh Malik, who plans to pursue a photography career in California, and a portion of a city built by Trent Barrett using ceramic clay for an independent study project.

Several WHS art students have pursued art at the collegiate level and this year is no exception. Kaci Whitehead will study computer graphics at IPFW and Josh Olson will study fine arts at Ball State University. In addition, though they are not specifically pursuing art in college, Brooke Miller (valedictorian) and Lanae Haessig (salutatorian) will each have artwork displayed at the show.

Jenna Rhodes, computer graphics, was the winner of the design for the Wawasee Flotilla and will have her work displayed, too.

New this year, dollhouses built by the art appreciation class will be displayed and then given to children in need after the show.
