What was initially called in as an attic fire has since been ruled an accidental blaze sparked by an extension cord.

Atwood Fire Department was called at about 9:15 a.m. to 2471 N. Lake Breeze Dr., Atwood. The residence is at Hoffman Lake.

Shortly after arrival, Atwood called Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory for a full assist to what was dispatched as a fire in the attic of the single story home. Squad 70 Fire Investigator Gordon Baker was also called to the scene.

Baker tells StaceyPageOnline.com this afternoon that the fire is actually being blamed on an extension cord that was being used in a bedroom. Baker said, “The fire started in the bedroom. An overloaded extension cord is believed to have shorted out and spread to other combustibles.”

No damage estimate was available.
