April workforce data was released today by the Department of Labor. According to George Robertson, president of Kosciusko County Economic Development Commission, “We did a quick analysis of how we are doing – pretty good compared to our neighbors – and where we need to go to achieve pre-recession economic health.”

KEDCo announced Kosciusko County currently has the lowest unemployment rate in northern Indiana and the 10th lowest among Indiana’s 92 counties. The more important evaluation of economic health, according to KEDCo, is the total number of people employed. In Kosciusko County, compared to the same period last year, there are 222 more people working now.

“But the even more important comparison is in terms of what we must do in economic development to get back to pre-recessionary employment numbers to enjoy the economic health we had in 2007,” Robertson noted. In April 2007, the county had 39,222 employed individuals. Through April 2013, that number was down by 1,668.
