WARSAW – The scoreboard operator for the Warsaw-Elkhart Memorial contest Thursday night should have received extra pay.

The host Tigers and the Crimson Chargers lit up the scoreboard like a Christmas tree in Northern Lakes Conference action at the Tigers Athletic Complex.

Memorial rallied from an early deficit to outscore the Tigers 15-10 in the league contest.

The Crimson Chargers, who scored two runs with two outs in their final at-bat to edge Warsaw 5-4 on April 29 in Elkhart, completed the regular-season sweep of the Tigers.

Warsaw built a 5-1 lead after three innings Thursday night. Memorial plated six runs in the top of the fourth frame to take a 7-5 lead. The Tigers answered with a pair in the home half of the fourth to tie it at 7-7. Memorial then scored four runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to pull away to the win.

Memorial outhit the Tigers 14-12, while Warsaw committed seven errors in the loss.

Junior Ashley Ousley led the way for Warsaw with three hits, including her second home run of the season.

Junior Kaleigh Speicher slugged her sixth roundtripper of the season for the Tigers. Sophomore Karly Jones had two hits, including a double, and sophomore Taylor Stiver and junior Kara Dishman also had two hits for Warsaw.

Senior Kayla Snider had a double for coach Jim Speicher’s Warsaw squad. Junior Whitney Sleeth, the starter in the circle, took the pitching loss for the Tigers.

Paula Strausborger had a huge game at the plate for Memorial. She had four hits, including a homer and two doubles, and four RBI to lead coach Craig Sears’ team to the NLC win.

Brittney Joy had two doubles, while Kara Summers and Lauren Strausborger each had two hits for the Chargers.

Gretchen Hurtle went the distance in the circle to gain the win for Memorial.

Memorial finishes the regular season at 13-10 overall and 9-5 in the NLC. Warsaw drops to 8-16 overall and wraps up league play at 8-6.

Memorial will play Northridge Monday in the second first-round game of the Class 4-A Warsaw Sectional at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Warsaw hosts Tippecanoe Valley Friday at 5 p.m. and hosts South Bend St. Joseph Saturday at 10 a.m. The Tigers play Concord in the second semifinal game of their own sectional next Wednesday at approximately 8 p.m.

Memorial won the JV contest 9-3 Thursday night.
