WARSAW – The Warsaw softball team began a busy final week of the regular season on a high note Monday.

The host Tigers collected an 8-5 win over Concord in a Northern Lakes Conference contest at the Tigers Athletic Complex.

Warsaw, which lost a 5-1 league contest at Concord on April 26, improved to 8-14 overall and 8-5 in NLC action. Concord drops to 14-7 overall and 9-4 in league play.

The two teams are scheduled to meet again on May 22 in a sectional semifinal game of the Class 4-A Warsaw Sectional.

Warsaw took control early Monday night with four runs in the first inning off losing pitcher Jenny Miller, who went the first four innings. The Tigers added two more tallies in the second frame and single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

The Tigers outhit Concord 10-9, but did have five errors in the win. Concord left 10 runners on base in the loss, while Warsaw stranded eight.

Senior Kayla Snider led  the offense for coach Jim Speicher’s Warsaw squad with three hits, including a two-run double, and four RBI. Sophomore Karly Jones went 3-4 and had a pair of doubles for the Tigers, while junior Kara Dishman had a hit and two RBI. Junior Whitney Sleeth scored three runs for the winners.

Concord scored a run in the second inning and plated a pair in both the fifth and sixth frames.

Amanda Schoeffler had four hits and scored two runs to lead Concord. Jenny Miller had two RBI for coach Dawn Austin’s team.

Junior Kaleigh Speicher notched the pitching win for Warsaw, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Speicher went the first 4 2/3 innings and Sleeth pitched the final 2 1/3.

Warsaw plays at Mishawaka Marian Tuesday. The Tigers then host Elkhart Memorial in their NLC finale Thursday, host Tippecanoe Valley Friday and entertain South Bend St. Joseph Saturday morning to wrap up regular season play.

Concord won the JV contest Monday by an 11-1 final.
