While Warsaw Police and Kosciusko County Central Dispatch were attempting to discover why a train blocked nearly every crossing in the city of Warsaw, Mayor Joe Thallemer was on the phone with Norfolk-Southern.

The only crossing that was open to traffic was located at Anchorage Road.

The train, which had been stopped since approximately 1 p.m. caused congestion and traffic blockage throughout the city leaving many drivers frustrated.

Thallamer said a representative of the railroad reported a hydraulic hose at the back of the train had broken. The engineer had to walk the 1,600 foot train – approximately a 4 mile round-trip walk. According to a Warsaw Police officer, the Norfolk Southern train crew responsible for operating the train was spotted eating at a taco vendor near Central Park.
