A Warsaw woman admitted to striking her child with a belt and taping the 4-year-old’s mouth shut. As a result, Sherena Michele Harris, 26, is charged with felony battery.

Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies and officials from the Department of Child Services performed a home visit Monday afternoon to 1692 E. CR 200 N., Warsaw. As case workers were interviewing Harris, they noted what appeared to be bruises on her 4-year-old daughter. Harris was brought to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department to be interviewed and subsequently admitted to striking her daughter with a belt that caused the visible injuries. She also said she had, in the past, taped the child’s mouth shut.

KCSD deputies arrested Harris on a preliminary charges of felony battery resulting in bodily injury to a victim under the age of 14 years old, as well as felony neglect of a dependent. Harris is currently being held on a $2,000 bond.

Officers continue to investigate the incident with the assistance of the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.
