Warsaw Police continue to investigate a case of check fraud that occurred at a local bank Monday and it appears the suspects have committed similar crimes in other states.

Rebecka Lee Scoggins, 37, and Scott David Mahood, 34, both of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., were arrested Monday at 1st Source Bank in Warsaw. Both have preliminarily been charged for theft under $100,000 and for forgery and information of forgery.

WPD Lt. Kip Shuter tells StaceyPageOnline.com that the case is still under investigation but has grown to include “a lot of Indiana and Kentucky.” Federal law enforcement agencies are also involved in the investigation and search warrants are being served today.

On Monday afternoon, police were called to 1st Source Bank on East Center Street where two suspects were apprehended allegedly trying to cash fraudulent checks. StaceyPageOnline.com learned that the suspects had been using fake identification at other area banks to commit the same crime.

Scoggins bond was set at $5,000 and Mahood is being held without bond.
