FORT WAYNE – Tim Ahlersmeyer has undergone a major change in his golf swing in the last month.

The senior standout was definitely in the swing of things Saturday for his Warsaw squad.

Ahlersmeyer, a lethal lefty, led the way as the No. 5 Tigers claimed the championship of the Homestead Invitational.

Ahlersmeyer fired a three-over round of 75 as the Tigers outshot 18 other prep teams on the layout at the Orchard Ridge Country Club.

Warsaw made it a pair of titles this week after winning its own Joe Harris Shootout on Tuesday at the Rozella Ford Golf Club in Warsaw.

The Tigers, who have finished second in three invitationals this spring, shot 322 on Saturday.  East Noble was runner-up at 329 with Culver Academies third at 333.

Ahlersmeyer is one of three returnees from last year’s lineup that placed sixth at the State Finals in 2012.  He shot 74 last Saturday as Warsaw was second to NLC foe NorthWood at the Wawasee Invitational contested at the South Shore course in Syracuse.

Senior ace Jon Schram and stellar sophomore Jonny Hollar each shot 80 for the Tigers Saturday. Sophomores Ryan Cultice and Brandon Eckert each checked in with 87s for coach Ben Barkey’s championship team.

Wawasee turned in a decent round of 339 at Orchard Ridge Saturday, which tied Homestead’s Green team for fifth place. Luke Jackson had the round of the day for the Warriors, posting a 76, which was fourth-best in the entire field.

Tristen Atwood turned in an 84, Jeffrey Moore an 88 and Dylan Cousins 91 to comprise the Wawasee scoring. Mason Germonprez’s fifth-man score of 98 gave Wawasee the tiebreaker over Homestead.

“Luke had a great day,” began Wawasee head coach Steve Coverstone. “We finished pretty well in a tough invite. The greens were firm and fast and the rough was long. We stayed with several conference teams, but we still need to minimize the big holes.”

East Noble senior Michael Sharp was just that in claiming medalist honors Saturday. Sharp, who plans to play collegiately at Michigan State, shot a two-under round of 70. He fired a 34 on the back nine to earn top individual accolades.

A pair of Northridge players, Will Erickson and Tom Morrison, were among the players to break 80. Erickson shot a round of 75 and Morrison carded a 79 for the Raiders, who shot 338 as a team to finish in fourth place.

Also breaking 80 wer Ben Sharff of Culver Academies with a 77 and Zach Seelor of Marion with a 79.

Warsaw returns to action Tuesday with a conference match versus Wawasee at South Shore.
