ANGOLA – In what shaped up to be a decent day for Wawasee on the tennis courts at the Angola Invite turned into an even better day for its number one singles player.

Esther Hermann swept both of her matchups against Whitko and North Side opponents with matching love and love scores to reach the final. Running into the buzzsaw that was Fort Wayne Carroll, however, Hermann could not solve Rachel Sutton in a 6-1, 6-0 loss in the finals of the one singles bracket.

Sutton and her entire team were on point at Angola, winning championships on all five courts to cinch the team title with 45 points, well ahead of runner-up Angola’s 24 points. Claiming titles for Carroll were Ashley Hoagland over Angola’s Tracy Byrne love and love at two singles and Jenna Jackson at three singles in a one and four winner over Angola’s Alyssa Rhoades.

At one doubles, Mackenzie Schoeff and Audrey Mallers beat Angola’s Kylie Bidlack and Kristin Heierman one and one while the two doubles team of Catherine Curtis and Taylor Stanchin beat Dwenger’s Lee and Lazoff three and one.

Katy Ashpole of Wawasee rallied from a love and two loss to Hoagland in round one to beat both Whitko and North Side opponents to shore up fifth place. Priscilla Par also took fifth place after collecting wins over North Side and Prairie Heights following a first round loss.

The one doubles team of Jada Antonides and Sam Prins won one match to take seventh place while Natalie Fritz and Molly Smith were winless in three matches.

Wawasee finished fourth in the team standings with 10 points. Whitko were last with four points, its individual results not provided except for a third-place finish by the one doubles team of Laura Alfreri and Abby Marshall, a 7-6, 6-3 winner over North Side’s team of Hough and Dufor.
