WARSAW – Two of the state’s top golfers shared the stage at the Rozella Ford Golf Club layout Wednesday.

The pair, standouts Jon Schram of Warsaw and Quentyn Carpenter of Triton, will also share the title of teammates in the future.

The two senior stars, both Ball State University recruits, led the way Wednesday for their respective teams in a non-conference clash of talented teams.

Carpenter captured medalist honors in the match with an even par 70, while Schram paced the No. 2 ranked Tigers to the team win.

Warsaw, playing just its third match of the season, edged past the Trojans 311-313 in cold and windy conditions.

The match was originally scheduled to be played on Tuesday at the Stonehenge Golf Club, but was moved to Rozella Ford.

The Tigers, who have placed second this spring in both the Hall of Fame Tournament and the Spring Preview last weekend in Franklin, showed off their depth Wednesday. Coach Ben Barkey’s squad returns three varsity regulars in Schram, sophomore Jonny Hollar and senior Tim Ahlersmeyer from last year’s squad that tied for sixth place at the State Finals.

Schram and Hollar led the way for Warsaw Wednesday. Schram fired a three-over effort of 73, while Hollar checked in with a 78 for the hosts.

Senior Ahlersmeyer and junior Will Petro each finished with an 80 for the Tigers. Senior Evan Cultice and sophomore Brandon Eckert both shot 82 in the varsity action.

Carpenter, a state finalist in 2011 as a sophomore, put together his strongest round of the young season Wednesday to pace the Trojans.

Ryan Rapp, the No. 1 player for coach Jack Carpenter’s squad, shot 75 Wednesday for the Trojans. Tanner Shepherd and Lucas Shafer each carded an 84 and Greg Music an 88 for Triton.

Warsaw shot 351 in the junior varsity competition. Ryan Cultice led the Tigers with a 77. Josh Ahlersmeyer shot an 87, Jacob Foster 88, Reid Cameron 99 and Curtis Archer 103.

Triton finished with a team score of 439 in JV action. Darrell Harrell shot 105 to pace the Trojans. Cameron Lemler and Chase Eyrich each shot 109, while Jacob Oldham shot 112, Jordan Anderson 113 and Drew Fleagle 118 for Triton.

The Tigers will look to make it three straight team titles Saturday in the Wawasee Invitational at the South Shore course in Syracuse. Warsaw then hosts its own Joe Harris Shootout Tuesday back at Rozella Ford.

Triton competes at Plymouth Thursday before taking part in the Marshall County Tournament on Saturday at Mystic Hills in Culver.
