The North Webster Public Library announced its Four Months of Fun contest winners at the big National Library Week Celebration last Thursday and awarded their long awaited prizes. Since January, the library has been holding contests and drawings each month.
The winner of January’s Audio Book Drawing was Mary Schmidt who received a free CD player. Denise Wiggs won an electronic photo frame for her winning photo in the Nature Photo Contest that ran Monday, Jan. 21, through Thursday Feb. 28.
Deanna Johnston, Judy Krug Smith, Juanita Robinett, Pirkko Miller, and Pam Mackey were all red purse winners in the February Ladies Shout-Out for the Library Drawing. March winners were Terry Frederick who won a prize basket of guy stuff in the March Madness for Men Drawing while Julie Wozinak also won a prize basket in the New Item Drawing.
In April, Sharlene Lewis was awarded top honors for having matched the most author photos with their names in the Author Match Contest. The first place winner, Linda Stookey, won a DVD player in the DVD Dash Drawing with the second place going to Jennifer J. Milles who won a newly-released DVD.
The winning essays in the 2013 Cemetery Walk Essay Contests were also announced. They were submitted by Carolyn Long who wrote about Charles and Alice Long; Rebecca Pressler writing about Emanuel and Blackford “Ford” Wyland; Doug Bowser who chronicled Ira and Mary Nine; Mike Minear writing on William B. Yohn; and Cindy Keirn who wrote about Leo Greider. The late individuals who were written about in these essays will be portrayed during NWPL’s annual Cemetery Walk on Sunday, Sept. 8.
In addition, numerous door prizes were handed out that, so everyone had a chance to go home with a prize.
It’s been “Four Months of Fun,” and now NWPL is gearing up for spring activities. Jan Biehl, co-owner of Stamp N Toys in North Webster, will teach how to create original greeting cards at the Make and Take Card Class at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 4. There is a $7 class fee that you can pay when you sign up at the front desk, and you take home all the cards you make in class.
Janette Stackhouse’s popular “Hooked on Herbs” class series will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4. In this first class, you’ll learn what herbs to plant, soil conditions, when and where to plant, paring herbs with food, and how to use your herbs and still keep them growing. You’ll continue to learn more about growing, harvesting, and using herbs in the second and third installments on Saturday, July 13, and Saturday, Aug. 24. The class is free and no advance registration is required.
The four months of winter are over, but the fun still continues. Stop in the NWPL and check our website www.nweb.lib.in.us often to keep abreast of upcoming classes and events.
